Disability Management is Key

Disability Management is key to helping businesses and their employees cope with disabilities. Most group insurance plans provide Long Term Disability benefits however not all plans take advantage of simple disability management practices, which can be used to better manage disabilities.
Benefits Canada article, "The 5 building blocks of disability management" indicates that according to a 2010 Statistics Canada study, work time lost for personal reasons averaged approximately 9.1 days per worker, up from an average of 8.0 days just 10 years ago. The numbers are also significant for short- and long-term absences. Disability from all sources accounts for anywhere from 4% to 12% of payroll costs in Canada.
The 5 main building blocks include: Foundation, Prevention, Accomodation/Mitigation, Support for Recovery and Integrated Support.
